Q: What materials do you make tank covers from?
A: We can make any of our tank covers out of a variety of materials. All the materials we offer are rust resistant, so it is safe to get them wet and do not require anti-rust treatment. The materials available for a particular tank cover are dependant on the size of the tank: Small tanks:
(sizes 3.5oz CO2 tanks to 9oz CO2)- Aluminum
- Anodized Aluminum*
- Stainless Steel
- Blackened Stainless Steel
- Titanuim
- Brass
- Black Rubber**
- Colored Rubber**
(sizes 12oz CO2 and larger)- Aluminum
- Anodized Aluminum*
- Stainless Steel
- Brass
- Black Rubber**
* = Anodized Aluminum is available in 12 color options, including Black, Blue, Gold, Green, Orange, Violet, Red, Bronze, Pink, Dark Purple, Turquoise, and Yellow
** = Rubber is available in black or color. Colored rubber is only available for the smaller tank sizes, and is available in 7 colors including Blue, Green, Red, White, Purple, Orange, and Yellow. -
Q: Are tank covers removable or are they permanent?
A: All the tank covers are entirely removable. You can remove them and replace them in seconds. This makes cleaning, storage, swapping tanks, etc, all easy. -
Q: What holds the tank cover on the tank?
A: At the top of each tank cover there is a leather drawstring with a stopper on it. To secure the tank cover on the tank, simply slide the tank cover all the way onto the tank, and pull the stopper closer to the neck of the bottle. This will securely hold the tank cover on the tank. -
Q: Why are your all metal tank covers so much more expensive?
A: The tank covers made of all metal (no rubber) are more expensive because they take longer to make. When a tank cover is made of half rubber, half the rings are already closed when the whole cover is being assembled. When the tank cover is all metal, the rings that would normally be closed already if they were rubber, still need to be closed. This doubles the amount of time it takes to make the tank cover. -
Q: I'm looking for a combination of materials, but I don't see it in any pictures. What will it look like?
A: If there is a combination of two particulat materials you would like to see an example of, please feel free to email us at Support@pbchainmail.com and we can get a sample piece made and photographed. We are working to get a sample piece made of most material combinations, but we can always accomidate a particular request. -
Q: Why do you put rubber in your tank covers
A: Rubber has a lot of benefits in a tank cover. First, it reduces the weight of the tank cover. The rubber weighs 1/6 the weight of steel for the same size ring. Second, it gives the tank cover some stretch. The tank covers can take a lot of abuse, but the rubber allows for them to have a tighter fit on tanks, as well as providing some give which makes the tank cover easier to put onto the tank. Third, it reduces the price. Using tubber rings reduces the time it takes to make the tank cover by half compared to if the tank cover were made of all metal. -
Q: Will the tank cover damage my tank?
A: Tank covers will not damage your tank. The tank covers are made of metal but the metal they are made of is tumbled and deburred before being annodized, which removed any pieces of metal that can stick out of the cover and damage your tank. The part of the indvidual metal rings that has contact with your tank is the curved outside egde or the side. Both of these places on the rings are very smooth and have no abrasions that could possibly scratch your tank. The part of the rings that is cut are closed and hand checked to ensure that it is a smooth edge before they go on any tank. -
Q: Are the tank covers difficult to clean?
A: The tank covers are very easy to clean. They are actually easier to clean than most tank covers on the market. You can simply spray, pour, or soak the tank cover in water and it will clean the paint, shell, or dirt from the tank cover. The materials the tank covers are made from are all resistant to rust and can get wet without a problem. If you have a stubborn bit of shell stuck in the tank cover, we recommend trying to either remove it by hand, to remove the tank cover from the tank to shake it out, or to use some warm water.
As with all tanks, try to keep water away from the regulator on the top of the tank. Water coming into contact with the regulator can get inside and cause major problems with the regulator and the tank. -
Q: How much is shipping?
A: We usually ship everything USPS Priority Mail in Flat Rate packaging. This keeps the cost of shipping any tank cover to anywhere in the US at $5.00, regardless of what state you are in. This does include a tracking number, which is able to provide delivery confirmation and limited tracking information.
For international shipping, $10.00 will get the package to Canada or Mexico, while other countries cost $12.00 flat rate. Unfortunately, customs charges may apply after the package reaches it's destination country. We have no control over customs charges, or know how much those charges may be.
If you ever would like a different shipping method, please feel to contact us and we can work something out. You would be charged for the cost of shipping for whatever method you choose. Some shipping options include UPS, FedEx, and more expedited shipping with the USPS. -
Q: Can you make a tank cover for my ______ tank?
A: We can make tank covers for any size tank. If you have an unusual sized tank or a tank that we do not have listed here, please contact us at Support@pbchainmail.com to receive a price quote. There are no special fees for a different sized tank, just the cost of the materials and labor, like all the other tank covers. There are a few pieces of information we would need about your tank to get an accurate quote, such as the lengh of the tank, the circumfrence of the tank, and the length of the tank from the tip opposit the regulator to where the tank becomes flat.
We have an illustration of the various dimensions we requore:
